Seaside Has It All

Crested near the mouth of the Columbia River, it is truly where Oregon's coastal experience begins. At its heart, Seaside's expansive two-mile promenade invites you to stroll unencumbered along the panoramic Pacific Ocean. However, what makes it unique is its extraordinary blend of recreational activities, entertainment, and culture.

So, whether you're interested in exciting beach volleyball and evening cookouts, golfing, horseback riding, exquisite food, or shopping sprees through eclectic shops and galleries, Seaside guarantees you more than just a day at the beach.

In Seaside, there is something for everyone. Visitors can literally dine and shop their way from one end of Broadway to the other. Walkers, runners, bicyclists, and surrey riders will love the Promenade, a two-mile paved walkway that borders the beach and provides magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean. Miles of pristine beach provides for a multitude of activities, such as kite flying, volleyball courts, bike (three-wheeled bikes) riding, sandcastle building, razor clam digging (in season), boogie boarding, surfing, and, of course, long walks along the shoreline. In close proximity are golf courses, miles of hiking trails, fishing and crabbing, playing fields, picnic grounds, factory outlet stores, even an aquatic center and skateboard park.

Stay at Seaside and visit the Lewis & Clark sites along the Columbia River and the Pacific Ocean.

The magnificent journey of two intrepid American explorers and the native American girl who guided them on much of their trip across the unknown continental wilderness West to the Pacific Coast ended here.

See the trail's end marked by a statue along side Seaside's famous Promenade which is an 8,800 feet long paved walk the provides a great stroll along the beach.

The Saltworks in Seaside is the location of the westernmost long-term encampment by the members of the expedition.

Escola Creek Park in Cannon Beach is the south westernmost point of exploration reached by members of this expedition.  This is where a whale washed ashore and the expedition members traded with the native Americans for blubber and oil.

Visit the replica of Fort Clatsop, near Astoria, which is now a national monument.  This is the last and westernmost for constructed by the expedition.  While there, also stop in at the Astor Column to see replicas presented there.

Other significant points to visit within an hour's driving distance are hiking Tillamook Head (Tillamook, Oregon area) and Cape Disappointment (Ilwaco, Washington area).

Seaside also hosts a number of seasonal events.
